Client: Liberal Arts College

Client Need: Audit of Curriculum design

Task Approach

Logica. Now has been called to help reviewing the design of a summer curriculum dedicated to college freshmen. The curriculum is centered around an interactive Summer Class for incoming freshmen that has the aim to both introduce newcomers to the new college environment and study and research the natural and socio-economical reality of the College's region.

We've been embedded in the inter-faculty team tasked to design the class and assigned with two main tasks:

  • General audit of the Curriculum design structure

  • Specific intervention on the design of learning outcomes and final deliverables

General Audit

We developed the curriculum's review by participating to key meetings, interviewing team members and reviewing past/current documentation relevant to the curriculum design. Three main objectives have been identified:

  1. Overall pedagogical structure
  2. Consistency with Faculty desiderata
  3. Positive student engagement

The review's outcome has been the creation of a list of recommendations targeting specific critical areas plus a list of interventions designed to correct those issues.

Learning Outcomes

A more specific task has been the production of a list of learning outcomes that both reflect the core ideas of the Curriculum and, if met, will ensure enduring understanding. Accordingly we designed a number of deliverables as determined acceptable evidence consistent with the desired results.

All this has been carried out following a "Backward Design" approach and it allow to craft a  successful learning experience, as demonstrated by an increase in enrollment,  retention and students' satisfaction (data extrapolated from student evaluations and registrar's).
